When you stand on the beach at the Broadwater National Park you can see for miles, even though we use the metric system. The beach stretches from South Ballina all the way to Evans Head.
The beach at Broadwater is very picturesque, with a long sandy shore and high dunes topped with seaside vegetation. The section of beach that you come out at is scattered with soft black rocks which are wearing away from the wind and rain. You can even make your own mark, but I don't think it would last very long. It also might not be advisable as there are signs up asking you not to climb the dunes due to the errosion, so maybe the same thing applies to the rocks.
You could wander for hours up and down the beach and not see the same thing twice. On the day I was there we found an old beer can, at least 20 years old, and you always wonder how it could have hung around on the beach or in the ocean for so long. You can also find a lot of driftwood, but again it is always best to leave it where you found it.
There is also a great picnic area at the end of the Road into the Broadwater National Park. There is a toilet, yes out in the middle of no where. There is also a number of picnic tables and a gas BBQ for those snags with tomato sauce. It is not an auto lighting BBQ, so make sure you bring your own matches. There is plenty of parking and it is only a short walk down to the beach from the picnic area.
If your looking for a quiet beach off the beaten track, take an turn eastward at Broadwater and enjoy Broadwater for yourself.
